Big interview with the Lotter team

Today we have a special post—introducing you to the talented individuals behind the creation of our novella-adventure game, Dancing Bones!
This is a story about spirits, magic, and strange adventures in a world where the past hasn’t died but has simply gained a bit of extra weight. But let’s go step by step—let’s meet the team!
👥 How Did the Team Form?
Initially, there were just three of us on the team—we studied together at university and always worked on projects as a group. We worked well together, so we decided to make our graduation project as a team too. As we got closer to defending our project, we realized it was time to find some additional hands. The most amusing part is that all the newcomers are old friends of our lead, Weiss. So the team came together in a very homey way.
🤠 How Did You Come Up with the Idea for Dancing Bones? What Was Your Initial Vision?
“The Bones” were originally supposed to be a short, fun play that our narrative designer wrote as a creative outlet. Then it evolved into a novella, and we started developing the visual style, locations, and… they turned out to be too colorful to deny the player the opportunity to explore them in detail. Thus, “The Bones” transformed into a unique hybrid of a novella and an adventure.
🎮 Who Will Enjoy Dancing Bones?
Those who love diving into deep stories with vivid characters and complex moral choices. Fans of visual novels, atmospheric adventures, and stories with mythological themes.
Now that you’ve gotten to know us a little better overall, it’s time to peek behind the scenes and get to know each team member more closely . Let’s begin! 💫
📌What Unexpected Skill or Knowledge Proved Useful in Creating the Game?
Knowledge of ethnography and religions helped create a believable setting—a world where deities are woven into the daily lives, language, and fears of the characters.
👾What Would You Say to Yourself When You First Started?
No one will know what happens in the code, as long as it works…
🗺️ What Was the Most Crazy Place or Event Where You Got Ideas for the Game?
During a tour of the Curonian Spit. Ideas come in the most unexpected places!
🎧 What Unexpected Skill or Knowledge Proved Useful in Creating the Game?
ASMR videos…
🤠What From the Game Would You Want in Real Life?
I want Tony’s collection of carpets!
🎨How Do You Integrate Real History/Culture Into the Game?
Since I’m responsible for the visuals of the locations, it’s important to me that cultural elements are present. But you can’t just randomly insert beautiful symbols. Each one has its own meaning, so I carefully select every element. Many books on ornaments (thanks to our lead!), videos analyzing archaeological finds, or articles with detailed explanations of the meanings of certain things/symbols help me with this.
🐸Which Character Would You Be in the World of Dancing Bones?
My character already exists in the game, and you’ll encounter him during your journey. You’ll instantly recognize him!
❤️ Thank You for Joining Us!
We poured everything into Dancing Bones : our soul, sense of humor, thousands of hours of work, and even a few sleepless nights. We hope it resonates with those who love stories full of mysteries, emotions, and unexpected twists.
